Beltane Celebration! Summer is almost here!
Beltane Honors Life. It represents the peak of Spring and the beginning of Summer and is celebrated on May 1rst! Earth energies are at their strongest and most active. All of life is bursting with potent fertility and at this point in the Wheel of the Year, the potential becomes conception. On May Eve, the sexuality of life and the earth is at its highest point. Abundant fertility, on all levels, is the central theme. Flowers are blooming, eggs are hatching, and baby animals are being born. The Maiden goddess has reached her fullness. She is the manifestation of growth and renewal, Flora, the Goddess of Spring, the May Queen, the May Bride. The Young Oak King, as Jack-In-The-Green, as the Green Man, falls in love with her and wins her hand. The union is consummated and the May Queen becomes pregnant. Together the May Queen and the May King are symbols of the Sacred Marriage, the union of Earth and Sky, and this union has merrily been re-enacted by humans throughout the centuries. A brilliant moment in the Wheel of the Year to bring ideas, hopes and dreams into action. And have some fun.....
These are just some of the ways you might like to celebrate this Beltane Holiday on May 1rst! It’s primarily a time of celebration. It is a time to share with family, friends and community. During this time, it can be tricky as most of us are under quarantine. However, where there is a will there is a way!
Light a Beltane Fire – Traditionally, fires were lit at Beltane. A special fire was lit for Beltane, with all other fires extinguished and then re-lit with the Beltane fire. Why not light a fire in your fire pit outside if you have one, in our fireplace, or if you have a candle handle that is a great option too! Spend some time with the fire and think what you’d like to ‘bring to life’, be it a project, an idea, or a relationship. If you’re in a relationship, Beltane is an excellent time to renew your intentions with one another.
Create Something Together – Beltane is a festival of fertility. It is a time of giving thanks for the fertility of the Earth, for the fruits and flowers we enjoy at this time of year, and for the miraculous ability of humans and animals to create life! You can also harness this wonderful energy by creating something new as a family. Plant a little container garden, write a short story letting your imagination run wild, have fun with an arts and crafts project…whatever it is, let it come to life at this magical time!
Get Outside – Getting outside at this time of year is energizing and restorative, and one way to enjoy it is to get as close to the Earth as possible. That means lying on your back gazing at the stars and connecting with the Earth’s energies, getting your feet in the grass, watching the sunrise, and giving thanks for the gifts of life.
Whatever it is that you choose to do, HAVE FUN doing it and be grateful that Summer is right around the corner with Mother Nature showing us how amazing she truly is! Happy Beltane! ~~~ Traci
